Republican Brad Gehring has announced his candidacy for the election to the Washington State Legislature, 35^th district, position 1.

I am a long time resident of the area. I attended Jr. High, high school and Olympic College in Bremerton . During the sixties, I joined the U.S. Navy, serving in combat in Viet Nam . After serving, I returned to the area to further pursue my education. I took up residence in Olympia , where I worked, started driving race cars and owned a business and purchased my first home.

After a few years, I moved to Bremerton , our family home town, eventually starting my career with Lockheed Missiles and Space at Bangor , where I retired after working for 27 years. During this period of time I purchased another home, got married, started and raised a family, continued driving race cars and eventually ran two businesses.

After retiring from Lockheed Martin in 2003, I was elected to the Bremerton City Council, where I am currently serving my second term. In 2004, we closed our store, Gehring Brothers Guns, and sold the property. This has allowed me to devote more time to being an effective City Council Representative.

The Pacific Northwest is home to me. I have had opportunity to see many different areas in this land and this is the area I have chosen to live, recreate, raise a family and now, be a Public Servant. I currently enjoy hunting, fishing, camping and motorcycle riding in the West Sound region. I have seen changes in this area, many very good, some not so good, in the past several years. I am proud to be a part of the revitalization of the City of Bremerton , a process that has had a great start, and continues to progress. I do want to see the Great Pacific Northwest remain Great.

As a City Council member, I have been exposed to the problems and challenges that face the governments of this area. The problems that concern the governments of this region directly translate to problems that affect the Citizens. These problems need to be addressed with balance, fairness and discretion. There can be economic development and ecological awareness and action, there can be controlled growth and property rights, there can be infrastructure maintenance and development and a workable, fiscally responsible capital plan.

I want to help preserve our Northwest lifestyle by helping to make intelligent, responsible decisions for the people of this state.

I want to help provide a fiscally responsible, fair and responsive state government.

I want to be a representative OF the People.
